How do I load my car onto the conveyor?

April 12, 2022 Tommy's Express Car Wash Benefits

White car loading on to Tommy's Express car wash belt with text reading "how do I load my car on the conveyor?"

If you’re new to the TommyClub, you might be wondering: how do I load onto a car wash conveyor?

You may also be curious about how the Tommy Transporter® Belt Conveyor works.

At Tommy’s Express, loading onto the conveyor is simple. Our belt conveyor system is designed to make entering the wash easier and less stressful than older rail-style systems.

It’s a smooth, easy ride for both you and your vehicle.

How to load onto the conveyor

As you approach the tunnel entrance, you’ll see two large red balls that help guide your vehicle onto the belt. They narrow the entry and give you a clear visual cue for where to line up.

To load your car onto the conveyor:

Step 1: Approach the wash slowly

Slow down as you enter the wash and watch the screen for instructions.

Step 2: Line up your vehicle

Use the red guide balls and entrance prompts to help position your vehicle correctly.

Step 3: Pull forward as directed

Continue forward slowly until you feel your car enter the track.

Step 4: Stop when prompted

Once your vehicle is in position, come to a complete stop.

Step 5: Shift into neutral

When the screen tells you to, shift your vehicle into neutral and take your foot off the brake.

Step 6: Relax and let the conveyor move your car

The belt will carry your vehicle through the wash automatically.

Sometimes, if the wash is busy or your vehicle is especially wide, a team member may assist with loading.

Our car wash can load vehicles up to 84 inches tall and 96 inches wide. For dually trucks, each wheelset can have a max width of 33 inches.

You can always ask for loading assistance at window before your wash if you’d feel more comfortable with extra help.

Why Tommy’s Express uses a conveyor belt system

We don’t use tricky tracks or old-fashioned rails for your tires.

Tommy Car Wash Systems invented the Tommy Transporter® Belt Conveyor to improve safety, make loading easier, and create a smoother wash experience. The conveyor belt system is designed to be easier on vehicles, wheels, and tires while also helping guests feel more confident entering the wash.

That means less stress when loading and a more enjoyable ride through the tunnel.

Exiting the conveyor belt

Keep your vehicle in neutral as you move into the blower room at the end of your wash. You’ll see a stoplight system telling you exactly when to shift from neutral to drive.

Ease onto your brake and slowly exit out of the wash.

After you exit the wash, make sure to visit our free vacuums and mat washers* to make the most of your time at Tommy’s Express. Complete the clean with these self-service detailing stations, along with detail kits available for purchase.

Once you experience it, you’ll never want to go back to any other wash.

If you have any questions, your local Tommy’s Express team members would be happy to help! Or message us on Facebook, and we’ll get back to you.

FAQ: Loading onto the conveyor

Is it hard to load onto the conveyor at a car wash?

No. At Tommy’s Express, the entrance has visual guides and screen prompts to help you line up, pull forward, stop, and shift into neutral at the right time.

What gear should my car be in during the wash?

Once prompted, shift your vehicle into neutral and remove your foot from the brake. Stay in neutral until the exit signal tells you to shift into drive.

What if I’m nervous about entering the wash?

That’s completely normal, especially on your first visit. If you’d like help, please ask a team member for loading assistance at the window before your wash.

Will the conveyor damage my tires or rims?

Tommy’s Express uses a belt conveyor system rather than old-style rail tracks, which is designed to create an easier and lower-stress loading experience for your vehicle.

What size vehicles can fit in the wash?

Tommy’s Express can load vehicles up to 84 inches tall and 96 inches wide. Dually trucks are welcome as long as each wheelset is no wider than 33 inches.
